da boys
oh my goodness, babies change so fast! i have been having so much fun staying home with these guys all but 2 days a week (gotta make that money, money). they keep me laughing (with the occasional scolding) all day.
smith is in such a fun stage right now. he is really trying to mimic most all words that come out of charlie or my mouth. he has also started making so many new expressions, especially when he says...."no, no, no" (which i'm sure he has picked up from me. he is quite the little helper and will help me with any chore outside and most chores inside. we sweep the porch together on almost a daily basis. and inside, if i have a windex bottle and give him a rag, he will help me clean all around the house....as long as i don't forget to spray (so he can wipe up). smith was not much of a cuddler as a baby, but thankfully this has changed a bit. he will now spontaneously lay his head on your shoulder or come up and hug or kiss you. it does not get much better than that. this weekend, while we were shopping at ikea, i had to feed bode...so i just sat down in a corner and nursed him. during this, smith kept coming up to me, putting his arm around me and having me put his head on his shoulder...i about melted (and not from the warm baby that was nursing on me :) ). physically, smith is killing it. he can pretty much go up/down curbs by himself and is really good at going up/down hills in our backyard. he loves to climb up anything he sees and also runs most places (especially big stores like sam's, ikea, home depot). love, love, love this big boy!
bode....oh, bode...he is a doll. the picture below pretty much sums it up. he is such an easy baby and so, so happy. he is sleeping through the night from 8 to about 6 or 7 with waking once for a little nursing action. so, mommy is so happy and getting her rest. he is holding his head up great, but we haven't started rice cereal yet...maybe soon. i'm really not in a big hurry with him which is so different than i was with smith. he is much more laid back in general...not in a big hurry to learn and roll because he is just content. smith had a lot of energy even at this age of 4 months, but bode is a little less active. smith would lay on his back and just flail...i think to get the energy out, but bode is pretty chill and will just look around. he is a joy and in much love with his older brother....and mommy and daddy, of course :)

birthday part out-takes
kelly's (my roomate and one of my best friends from baylor) son aaron turned 1 last month and we now live close enough that we drove up to dfw area for the par-tay. it was very fun and aaron was adorable. i am assuming the pics below are just foreshadowing for the next 5-10 years of our lives. we tried desperately and to no success, but honestly...they all look cute, smiling or not! i love how you can see the progression of unhappiness on bode's face, bless his heart...he just wasn't having it.

succulent rookie
succulents are everywhere...i like them very much. sooooo, i enlisted the hubby's help to make a planter that fit perfectly on our entry way peninsula/divider brick thing. i also wanted it a certain color, so we stained it. i had learned from previous staining activities, that you SHOULD use the wood conditioner first to get a really nice, even tone...and a tone that is closer to what the picture on the can shows.
we lined our planter with a waterproof material, then pea gravel, and then soil for the plants. this was our vision of how our succulents would drain without having to drill holes into our planter to drain on top of my peninsula.
i'm really happy how it turned out. it has been planted for 2 weeks now and all are living and growing...with exception of those tall ones in the back...they may have to be replace :(, but 2 out of many is not bad!

fireplace change
this was a fun one. my mom and i worked pretty hard at all those little crevices in the fireplace and ruined quite a few brushes. it is a good thing we have a small fireplace :) it may have been better to have a professional spray it, but it looks great now and i love the change it made in our den.

we're back, we've moved, and we're crazy
so we are back to the blog....hoping to be a bit more consistent now. we are somewhat settled in our new town and house with looming DIYs still going on and causing me to feel behind ALWAYS. charlie is a month in to residency and it is busy. he is great help and fun when he is home, but unfortunately those times are kept to a minimal....thanks s&w. we love the new house and i hope to post some the DIYs that have gone on and will continue to go on. we've painted every wall in the house...with exception of the mudroom...which will be done when our distaste (brought on by long hours with a roller attached to our arm) for painting has waned. i have begun working 2 days a week at a SNF, but really cherish the days i am home with the boys and able to make our house a home. i'll jump start my resurgence to blog life with pictures from the boys' room. this was a bit of a labor of love for me. i made all the linens for the room and had so much fun coming up with the design/theme. really, i cannot take all the credit, as charlie suggested we buy some vintage tour de france posters to hang in the room. this was my jumping off point and where all the colors/ideas stemmed from.
this is the room before we moved in.....

and this is the room now.....
this is the view from the other side...
a few other shots....
in case you are interested....i used very easy tutorials for both the crib sheet and changing pad cover at www.prudentbaby.com
----i should add a picture of my baby boys, who...#1 are growing like crazy and #2 are the reason i put energy into things like this. (to be honest, they could probably care less at this age....but smith did have a pretty great smile when he first saw the room....ahhhh, so worth it)
